The American Petroleum Institute or API has created a specification for API 5L Fittings. This specification covers both seamless as well as welded steel line pipe fittings. The API 5L is steel pipe and fitting that is meant for pipeline transportation systems in industries petroleum and natural gas, since the API 5L material is well suited for conveyance of different media such as gas, water, and oil. Size range of the API 5L Grade B Pipe Fittings is limited only by manufacturer’s capabilities.

Hence, the  technical committee has developed two Product Specifications Levels which are referred to as -  PSL 1 and PSL 2.  While the PSL 1 is a standard quality for line pipe, the PSL 2 contains additional mechanical properties, chemicals as well as testing requirements.
